2009 Late Harvest Riesling
This 2009 EKEM is an ode to the great sweet wines of the world. The 2009 is a Trockenbeerenauslese style and has a residual sugar of 15.2%. This wine has the elegant perfume notes of candied orange, lychee berry, brioche and apples that complement the fruit aromatics. In the mouth, this wine shows uncommon weight and pleasing textures. The flavors are similar with lychee berry, apples, pears and stone fruits combined with hints of patisserie flavors. Bright acidity carries both aromas and flavors on this balanced and lovely wine. This wine will pair beautifully with fruit based desserts of all kinds, especially apple and pear tarts and pastries.

THE VINTAGE
The 2009 vintage brought us fruit of exceptional character and quality. The weather offered nearly perfect growing conditions in the Monterey County region, allowing for intense flavor development accentuated by crisp acidity and bright fruit. Wine Spectator gave this vintage 98 points.
VINIFICATION AND AGING
The hand harvested fruit was immediately whole cluster pressed and cold settled for 48 hours to preserve the high toned and exotic aromas. The clear and settled juice was then inoculated and set to ferment in neutral French oak (50%) and half stainless steel barrels (50%). The wine was aged for 10 months before bottling to get an optimal combination of aged complexity and intensity of fruit favors. This wine is the result of true hand winemaking techniques.
